UMBC Sunflower Program

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower movement started in the United Kingdom just a few years ago. It is widely used in public spaces across Great Britain, Ireland, and Scotland.

If you notice someone wearing the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower, please be patient and give them more time. Displaying a sunflower on your office door, reception, or waiting areas lets those with hidden disabilities know they are welcome and understood

Living with a hidden disability can make daily life more demanding for many people, but it can be difficult for others to identify, acknowledge, or understand the challenges. Wearing the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower indicates that you have a hidden disability and would like to make those aware discreetly. The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower has been successfully introduced in the UK. With your help, we can introduce this movement to the UMBC community.
