Placement Testing Accommodations

Incoming new or current students who would like to request accommodations on a placement test due to a documented disability must first register with SDS through Accommodate.

Placement testing accommodations will be coordinated with an SDS Disability Specialist and communicated to the Academic Success Center (ASC) who administers UMBC’s placement tests.

Please register with SDS at least 2 weeks prior to your Placement Testing window date in order to complete the initial SDS intake process prior to testing.

Supporting disability documentation needs to be submitted in advance and should clearly indicate the time extension or assistive technology barrier/need before testing accommodations can be approved.

Note: Placement testing accommodations are separate from the academic classroom accommodations and the SDS letters faculty receive during a semester. A follow-up meeting to plan for classroom accommodations typically occurs after students have completed their placement testing and registered for their classes.

“How do I get registered with SDS”?

Registration starts through our SDS online platform called Accommodate. Read more at https://sds.umbc.edu/accommodations/registering-with-sds/

Placement tests cannot be scheduled through the online SDS Accommodate student portal.

Placement testing is only scheduled through the Blackboard platform via the Organizations Placement Testing menu. Instructions are sent to all new students for how to prepare for and access Placement Testing.
