UMBC ADS hosts monthly Accessibility Walk & Roll Tours—and sometimes even two or three within a month!
In October 2025, during Disability Identity and Awareness Month, SDS/ADS celebrated with a full lineup of engaging events. One highlight was welcoming our special guest, Chip, who joined us for one of our monthly Walk & Roll Tours. We’re excited to share a video featuring Chip as she explores campus and demonstrates several accessible routes. If you couldn’t attend, no worries—there are plenty more tours coming up! You can always find upcoming tour dates on our Events page. Click below to watch the video.
What Will You See on the Tour?
Features:
UMBC has many accessibility-focused features across campus, including the Skywalk, improved lecture halls, upgraded elevators, and more renovations underway.
Bugs & Barriers:
We also talk openly about areas that still need improvement. You’ll learn how to report concerns—whether it’s submitting a repair request through Work Control (410-455-2550), completing an accessibility concern report, or collaborating with campus partners such as Facilities Management and DoIT. Accessibility is everyone’s responsibility.
What to Expect on the Walk & Roll Tour
We begin in the ADS Conference Room, explore the Skywalk and tunnel connections within the Academic Core, visit Adaptive Computing in the Library, and stop by the Retriever Integrated Health reception area, which supports both physical and mental health. Tours are small and welcoming, and mask use is very welcome. UMBC is committed to creating an accessible and inclusive environment for all. To request accommodations or ask about event accessibility, please email slazar@umbc.edu with “Accessibility Tour” in the subject line.
Can’t Make It?
More tours are planned! If you have a small group, we’re happy to arrange a custom tour. Email us to find a day and time that works best. Come learn, explore, and experience how accessibility shapes our campus. We hope to see you soon!
